There is a wise saying: “A friend in need is a friend indeed” and it is always true. A friend is a person who you can trust. I think that everyone needs good friends, otherwise life becomes boring. We all need people to laugh and to cry with, to go out and to have fun with, to play active and board games with and finally to share darkest secrets with, etc. These people are called friends. In the process of time there are fewer friends, but those who stay become as close to you as relatives.
Time shows who is reliable, trustworthy, who shares the same interests with you, who accepts you as you are. These people are real friends and we should treasure them. Recent research has shown that having friends increases lifespan. These people inspire us, tell us to eat healthy, encourage us to keep a diet if necessary. On the other hand, friends can reinforce the bad habits you developed. Thus, they need to be chosen wisely. Life is depressing without friends. After family members these people are those who care for you. Best friends don’t necessarily please you all the time telling nice things. They can sometimes tell you the bitter truth. It doesn’t mean they want to hurt you. They simply want to help you to sort out things.
It’s always good to have fair and trustworthy friends, because we needs people who feel happy with our success and sad with our failure. They are always there for you and never ask anything in return except love and friendship.

Many things have changed over the past decades. Same can be said about the life of modern teenagers. Today teens are more independent, have other interests, and are definitely lazier than before. Computer is the root of most changes in the society. Modern teenagers spend almost all their free time online, playing computer games, chatting with friends, surfing social networks, instead of going out and doing some outdoor activities.
If you ask a teenager what the life was like twenty or thirty years ago, he won’t answer, because he doesn’t know. Modern children simply can’t imagine their life without cell phones, tablets and MP3 players. These gadgets have gradually replaced the whole world of childish games and live communication. Previous generations of teenagers could still be seen in the streets jumping, running around and playing active games. Today, teenagers are mostly seen online. From the one hand, it’s certainly not good. From the other hand, this can be understood. How can children avoid electronic toys if they are everywhere? Other than that, the life of teenagers is not easy. They have a number of problems, which they don’t want to discuss with adults.
Chatting with friends, at least they can share with them. Being online, they can also find answers for many urgent questions or problems. Modern teenagers are luckier than other generations for having the freedom of choice and life full of possibilities. It’s a “computer-based” generation. Even their homework is done with the help of computers and the Internet.

Living in the city has both advantages and disadvantages. From one hand, it is always easier to find a good job or to visit interesting places and exhibitions. There is also a good choice of public transport. From the other hand, the noise and pollution level in big cities is really high. As for me, I quickly become tired of it.
I live in Krasnodar with my family. It’s the biggest city in Krasnodar region and its capital. It is also the cultural, political and social centre of the region. I should say that the city is really beautiful and many people from smaller towns and villages come to work and study here. What they like about the city is that there are lots of interesting things to do and places to see. They also like job and study opportunities. There are lots of good universities and large companies in Krasnodar. There are also many ways to spend the weekends, for example, visiting a museum, going to the cinema or theatre, shopping, eating in good restaurants, going to concerts, etc. If people want to relax they go to parks for a walk or to read a book. In general, the city offers various opportunities and you never get bored. However, there are some disadvantages as well.
Sometimes it’s difficult to find a cheap apartment, so living in a city becomes very expensive. The roads are full of cars which pollute the air and the traffic is really heavy on weekdays. Public transport is also over-crowded. That’s why many people leave the city at weekends. They try to relax in the countryside, where the air is much fresher and there isn’t any noise from cars. We also go away each Saturday and Sunday to visit my grandparents.

It is known that there have been numerous ancient civilizations and empires throughout history. They have largely contributed to the development of science, technology, medicine and to the general prosperity of humans. I think that those ancient cultures are the foundation of who we are today. The Paleolithic Period was the earliest era of human development. People then didn’t worry about many things. They lived a simple life of sleeping, hunting and eating. But as time passed, humans have evolved. Soon, they could build some structures, make some clothing, survive in dangerous surrounding and even use herbal medications. People started seeking for immortality long ago, but were unable to attain it. It was written in the world’s first epic poem about Gilgamesh. One thing that united all ancient civilizations was the use of symbols or hieroglyphs in writing. Many ancient cultures made inscriptions on walls, rocks or trees to transfer information and to communicate in such way. Although the languages they used are mostly dead, some modern cultures still use hieroglyphs.
For example, Hebrew and Arabic alphabets were derived from ancient civilizations. Mayan civilization is also an interesting example. They are considered to be the representatives of Mesoamerican region. The Maya people were known for their fully developed written language, distinct art, architecture, mathematical and astronomical systems. They even had an advanced calendar, which was used to track certain periods of time. Many ancient societies worshipped several idols, gods and goddesses. It is especially true about ancient Egyptians.
They built huge temples for their beloved gods, sacrificed things, and erected pyramids. In conclusion, I’d like to add that being so different from us, ancient civilization cultures still used the same patterns of human behavior as modern societies do.

The United States of America is one of the largest countries of the world. It consists of 50 independent states which have a lot to offer to its visitors. Every year millions of people from all over the world come to visit the USA. The reasons can vary, of course. Some come to study English, some to find an interesting job, but the majority of visitors are attracted to its sights. There are lots of places and things to see in the USA, so a week or two wouldn’t be enough to see all places of interest. Besides the USA is quite a remote country for many other world countries and continents. For example, to reach it from Russia takes a whole day on a plane.
So, most people, who wish to see the places of interest in the USA, try to spend at least a month there travelling from state to state. And it’s a wise decision, because it’s worth it. One of the main places people want to visit is the capital of the USA, Washington D.C. It’s a small city of mainly political importance and the White House is situated there. Other cities worth visiting are New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Philadelphia, Boston, and many others. All the mentioned cities have a lot to offer. For example, New York is the largest city of the country and one can see many skyscrapers in this city. Philadelphia is the city where the Declaration of Independence was signed and the main sight of the city is the Liberty Bell. Both Las Vegas and Atlantic City are world famous with its numerous casinos and entertainment facilities.
The largest and the most prestigious university of America is situated in Boston. It’s Harvard. Los Angeles is the home of Hollywood. Other than that, all tourists of the USA want to see the Niagara Falls and the Great Lakes, and also to swim in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
